2016 – Sankofa Afrika-home established

The school was founded in 2016 by JaWalker. First, I collected various school materials.

2017 – School opening

School opening in my private home. There were no classrooms or toilets. During the first school year, the children were taught in an uncompleted room in the house and outdoors on the floor. The toilet was in the bush.

2018 – Kindergarten established, start of well construction, construction of temporary classrooms and toilets

Foundation of the kindergarten for the very little ones. Major well construction project began and temporary outdoor toilets are also being built. Due to the high number of students, an expansion of the classrooms is necessary. Two rooms are temporarily built - without a roof or windows.

2019 – Further expansion of classrooms and toilets

In 2019 I personally began the major projects of building new classrooms and toilet facilities. In Austria I collected school supplies, clothing, shoes, toilet accessories, building materials, construction machinery, computers and much more.

The new well was also inaugurated - so the Sankofa Afrika-home students receive not only a warm meal but also enough drinking water.

2020 – Equipping classrooms, starting construction of a multi-purpose hall and new playground

I built new equipment for the classrooms myself: school desks and chairs, makeshift school blackboards (magnetic paint on walls). Furthermore, the foundation for the large future multi-purpose hall was created. This will later be used as a gym, music room, workshop, event room, etc. In Sankofa Afrika-home, students are not only taught writing and reading. Passing on the traditional culture – drumming, singing, dancing, history, etc. – to the young generation is very important to us. We also teach African crafts and introduce them to various career options in practice. In the future they should also be able to do an apprenticeship after school in Sankofa Afrika-home.

In addition, I built a large playground for the Kindergarten and school children. 

2021 – Pavilion of Mr. Franz – further expansion of the toilets

The major Pavilion project has been completed. It is used as a classroom, stage, kitchen, etc.

In addition, the installations for the new large toilet facility were laid. Thank you so much Mister Franz.

2022 – Completion of 7 classrooms, construction of  2nd well 

7 classrooms were completed - the students could finally move into a room with a closed roof. The large “real” school boards from Austria are very special for every one of us at Sankofa Afrika-home School. Also the construction of a second well was started.

2023 – Container shipping: windows, building materials, tiles, school equipment

This year our school will be continued to be built using the material collected from Austria.
